The Shoalhaven Foodies visit Currarong

Currarong is a very charming little town in the Shoalhaven.

If you haven't been there, we definitely recommend a visit, particularly if you like glorious views, the smell of the sea and a feeling of being away from it all.
The Shoalhaven Foodies' itinerary included a wine tasting and lunch at the popular cafe, Zac's Place.

First Stop - a Boutique Winery

Salet Basket Press Boutique Wines at Currarong is not where you'll see grapes growing, but rather the place where owner Michael Salecich personally makes his wines by hand. The grapes are brought in by refrigerated trucks from high quality wine areas of Southern Australia. The wines are made by traditional methods and are matured in American and French oak barrels in an air conditioned, dark quiet cellar for up to five years before bottling. We soon discovered that Salet wines have a smooth rich structure and once opened, will keep for many days.

Our thanks to Michael for his amazing generosity in sharing so many of his
lovely wines with us. Salet Basket Press Boutique Wines can be contacted on 4448 399 or visit their website: www.salet.com.au

Second Stop – Lunch

Then it was a short distance to Zac's Place (4448 3177) for a seafood lunch. The cafe is located right in the middle of what is called the shopping centre - post office, general store and Zac's Place, that's about it!
Owner, Paul just back from fishing on his trawler for the cafe, personally greeted us and made us feel welcome.
Zac's Place is a friendly, popular place and there were other large groups gathered to enjoy the fresh seafood.
